Tips for fishing

Many people think, that you simply hang your fishing line into the water and all the big fishes bite automatically. And many freshwater fishermen believe, that there is nothing interesting in saltwater fishing. We know, it is at least as exciting as catching salmon.

As a saltwater fisherman you have to know a lot of things. First of all: which sorts of fish live around the place and what do they feed from. Next question: where are the places this food is to find? After knowing that, you only need your equipment and a chart, where some of the traditional good places are marked. This you can receive from our guide.

Daytime:
Daytime and light are not as important as in freshwater fishing, but still important. It depends sometimes on the depths you are fishing in. In 100 m depth it is naturally really dark, daytime there is not important any more. But it is important to know, that some fishes are not that shy any more when it is dark or that they come nearer to land to catch some small fishes or crabs there. And it is important to know which species feed at night, it will be difficult to catch them in daytime. One example for these is dover sole.

Tide:
In Norway the heigh of tides is not as spectacular as in other parts of the world, in some part of Sørlandet the difference is up to halv a meter. But is plays an important rule to currents. In general you can say it is better to fish while water is coming in. The stream coming towards land brings very often f.e. flatfish to special places where they start to catch their food. The point in time when flood is coming you can ask our fishing guide Wolfgang for.

Wind:
Wind is an important element for having luck while fishing. Wind blowing towards land does the same as flood, it brings fishes to the rocks, we have many of them in Skottevik, where they can find their food under. Cod, plaice and sea trout f.e. are some of them.
And if you must stay inn because of too strong wind to drive with the boats you´ll always have the chance to catch from land.
